Group Leaders Notes: Discipleship Discovery Group

1. What are you thankful for?
2. What are you (your family, friends, and neighbors) struggling with?
3. Is there anything this group can do to help with any of these struggles?

Review the Previous Story

Ask someone to retell the story from the last group meeting.

1. What did this teach us about God?
2. What did this teach us about ourselves / people?
3. How did you apply / obey?
4. Who did you tell? and What was their response?

2. What does this teach us about ourselves / people?
3. What do you need to apply / obey?
4. Who are you going to tell?

Discipleship Discovery Group

In a small group setting a preaching or teaching centered approach is the least effective. Today we have other learning methods to utilize in a small group setting. One of these methods is a discovery method or a student-centered method. Leader’s role is to help the group member discover the truth on their own. Groups leader role is to be a facilitator, personal model, and delegator. In this method of learning a group leader and a group member play an equally active role in the discipleship process.

1. What are you thankful for?

(Tell a personal example or your personal testimony)

1. What are you (your family, friends, and neighbors) struggling with?

(Discuss if there are ways the group can help each other. Do not try to fix things yourself – Pray to God first!)

1. Is there anything this group can do to help with any of these struggles?

(The key here is to shape the group to help each other. You can draw from the previous bible lesson)

Review the Previous Story

Ask someone to retell the story from the last group meeting.

(Ask the group to help each other remember the story correctly. If they get it wrong and are not corrected by the group, ask them to read the part they’re missing to see what it says.)

1. What did this teach us about God? 

(See if the group knows the central point, theme, revelation & Gods character. If they do not know, help them and let the group discuss)

1. What did this teach us about ourselves / people?

(Lead the conversation to help people realize they are sinners and need God’s help. Draw from the story for guidance.)

1. How did you apply / obey?

(Lead people to act, to support, and to pray for each other)

1. Who did you tell? and What was their response?

(It is vital that people develop a godly pattern of sharing the biblical truth and personal testimonies with others)

1. What does this teach us about God?

(Don’t give in to the temptation of jumping ahead and explaining the story. You don’t have to answer all the questions; let the discovery process take its shape and have people chew on it, and the Holy Spirit to reveal it to them)

1. What does this teach us about ourselves / people?

(You can add other questions to lead people to the answer)

1. What do you need to apply / obey?

(Tell a personal example or your testimony of how you applied something in your life)

1. Who are you going to tell?

(Help people act or live out their Christian life. This might be to share the story or testimony with others. Here are five basic ways to live out the lesson: Encourage, Give, Comfort, Spent time with, and Serve)
